Joss Whedon Will Write And Direct 'Avengers 2'

Joss Whedon took the comic book mania to a whole new level when his movie Avengers Assemble hit cinemas with record breaking viewings and a general must see vibe from the critics. So it is no suprise to hear that Disney/Marvel were desperate to claw him back for the sequel.

"Joss Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015," Disney said in a statement. "As part of that deal, Whedon will write and direct Marvel's The Avengers 2 as well as help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC. He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel's cinematic universe."

Although there is no further word on how Whedon will tackle the TV series it should incorporate another familiar character The Hulk as Guillermo del Toro has been given the reigns for his live action show, again for ABC. It would seem a little odd if there were two different hulks in the same universe with two different storylines.

 Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy are all set for release through 2014, so Avengers 2 is likely to arrive some time in 2015.
