The types of vacuum for pet hair

Published on by Joseph Samuels

Keeping pets is a messy business no matter how small or how big they are, they all seem to be capable of making a mess. However, out of all the messes they make, the most stubborn and hardest to clean up is pet hair. Which is why some vacuum companies have introduced models specially suited to this task.

Requirements of a pet vacuum

Since pet hair gets everywhere in the carpet, on the settee, under furniture and sticks to anything fabric, a single all purpose vacuum cleaner sometimes is just not enough.

The best vacuums for pet hair have at least one vacuum brush attachment to dislodge hair from fabric and draw the hair out from under cabinets.

Another must-have accessory is an adjustable nozzle or at least an extended one, to allow access to hard to reach places where the hair inevitably collects.

Vacuum types

Bagged vacuum cleaners do not tend to fare as well compared to bagless vacuums as the hair blocks the air flow, which is why brands who offer bagless vacuum cleaners like Dyson are a good purchase. The Animal range from Dyson is specifically designed with pets in mind, offering varying levels of suction for different levels of dirt.

Hoover pet vacuum cleaner, like the Dyson offering, is also a bagless upright cleaner but has rubber blades designed to pick up stubborn hairs from fabric.

If watching all the dirt collected swirl around the vacuum does not sit well, then there are still bagged vacuum cleaners available. Miele cat is one of them. It is a compact vacuum cleaner with a lot of suction power designed to get deep into carpets and remove dirt and hair.

If going straight to the source is more beneficial, then there is a vacuum attachment on the market called the pet vac.

It attaches to the vacuum cleaner and has a brush on the end of an extra long hose, which is designed to be used as far away as possible from the vacuum cleaner itself. It has been designed so that the animal getting brushed does not get scared of the noise. As the animal is brushed, the hairs are immediately picked up by the vacuum suction.

The final offering is a vacuum that requires no human interaction at all, the Roomba pet irobot cleaner simply sets off on its own cleaning the floor. Its many sensors allow it to manoeuvre around objects and it even has a detangle sensor that allows it to free itself from cables or carpet tassels. The only time you need to intervene is to empty it and programme it.
