'RoboCop' Remake Update: Hugh Laurie Out, Clive Owen In?

Published on by SamuelConnor

Deadline reports that Hugh Laurie who was supposed to have been secured to play the bad guy role in the new RoboCop movie has dropped out.

Laurie, who would have played the role of the CEO of the company that transforms Alex Murphy into the crime fighting cyborg, has dropped out for undisclosed reasons.

But MGM are quickly trying to scoop up his replacement. And it looks like they are after a British actor as they have reportedly approached Clive Owen.

Maybe MGM were impressed with Guy Pearce and his role as the hard and engaging Peter Weyland in Prometheus and are seeking a character in a similar vein.

RoboCop is currently in pre-production and is looking at a release date in late 2013. Starring Joel Kinnaman in the title role, with Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson among the supporting cast.
