Jim Carrey May Join 'Kick-Ass 2'

Universal are courting Jim Carrey at the moment for the role of a character known as The Colonel. The character is a founding member of Justice Forever, a group of crime-fighters for which he is in charge of recruitment.

Fans of the comic book are already against the idea before Carrey has even agreed, stating that he is nothing like the character portrayed in the pages.

But putting that aside for a moment this role could be a good move for Carrey's career since his last outing was in Mr Poppers Penguins in 2011. He just seems to be stuck in a rut of playing the rubber faced funny guy instead of tackling the more serious roles that he has proven many times he can handle.

Carey is a huge fan of the original movie Kick-Ass and as long as he does not bring a riddler style portrayal to the table he should be fine. The only problem I see is his dedication to making family friendly movies, as Kick-Ass ups the violence and profanity stakes quite a bit.

Directed by Jeff Wadlow and produced by Mathew Vaughn Kick-Ass: Balls To The Wall stars Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and John Leguizamo, and opens in the UK on 19 July 2013.
